On Saturday, February 18th, Stanford’s Asian American Students’ Association (AASA) hosted the Listen to the Silence the Concert, and event that followed the Asian American community issues conference of the same name. For the night, Cubberly Auditorium’s stage was home to a dialogue of important themes translated into an intimate display of the arts, ranging from spoken word to dance.
Stanford’s very own Alliance Streetdance team graced the stage as the opening act right before Youtube sensation Sam Hart performed his acoustic hit “Mario Kart Love Song,” along with other originals. Highlights of the show included Monique Macasaet, Panith Sovann, Berkeley’s Theatre Rice, and Stanford’s own Bryant Phan (of the Spoken Word Collective), Jazzy Rae, and your boy! Jason Chu aka “Master Chu” of Model Minority. The artist closed the show with a powerful hip hop set in which he echoed important issues affecting the Asian/Asian-American Community through beats, rhymes, and the classic audience call and response.
The Listen to the Silence Conference & Concert proved to be a successful forum for some powerful artistic expression. While the concert itself was not recorded, you can find most of the artists and their works up on Youtube!
